Life Cycle of Head Lice
The life cycle of head lice has three stages — egg, nymph, and adult. They are 0.8 mm by 0.3 mm, oval and usually yellow to white.
Eggs
Small, 0.8 to 0.3 mm in size, oval or teardrop-shaped. Their colour ranges from white, yellow, or brown, making them hard to see.
Nymphs
Baby lice, about the size of a pinhead (1.1–1.3 mm). They crawl to the scalp to feed on blood daily — this stage takes up to 10 days.
Adult
Develops from the nymph stage, darker in colour ranging from tan to grayish-white to brown, and around 2–3 mm in size. Females are usually larger than males.
